Frequently Asked Questions

Q - How do I add my RSS feed to PingVine?
A - Enter your credentials (e.g. - Username/Password or Application Key), a valid feed URL and click the button titled "Submit".
Q - How do I delete my RSS feed from PingVine?
A - After entering your credentials (e.g. - Username/Password or Application Key) a feed will be auto populated in the feed URL field. Click "Remove". Note that if, for some strange reason, your feed URL isn't auto populated clicking "Remove" will still delete any active feed you have for that service.
Q - How do I know if a feed is active for a particular service?
A - After entering your credentials (e.g. - Username/Password or Application Key) a feed will be auto populated in the feed URL field.
Q - Will PingVine post old items on my feed?
A - No, PingVine will begin posting the next time your feed is updated and will not retro-post any of your old content.
Q - Can I post more than 1 feed per service?
A - No, currenlty PingVine will post a single feed for each service. To source multiple feeds we recommend you use a feed masher like Yahoo Pipes first to consolidate them and eliminate any duplicates/looping issues then have PingVine consume the resultant feed.
Q - What is a feed?
A - Check out Wikipedia.com or WhatIsRSS.com for a detailed explanation.
Q - I tried to post a feed for [Insert microblog name here] and it says something about "Circular Reference", what's that?
A - PingVine consumes messages from the feed url you provide and rebroadcasts those messages to your Ping.fm microblogs. If the url you provide is similiar to a microblog enabled in your Ping.fm account then PingVine will warn you that you may have a circular reference. It is possible for messages rebroadcasted by pingvine to show up in the original feed causing an endless messaging loop. Oh teh noez!
Q - Can I pick the URL shortening service I want PingVine to use? Does PingVine do URL shortening?
A - PingVine does not do any URL shortening. We send URLs on as-is. If you're pushing into Ping.FM then you have some control over how they do URL shrinking through the Ping.FM interface.
